Index Ventures helps the world’s most passionate founders grow their companies in their own way. We created a new site for Index that shows how personal relationships set them apart.

Role: Design Lead — Made @ Instrument — 2020

Building relationships

Index Ventures invests in people, not deals. They asked Instrument to redesign their site to reflect this vision and make a lasting impression on founders. Our goal was to position Index as the leading international venture firm, building trust and showing they’re humans inspired by great ideas, not VC robots. In order to achieve this, we worked closely to articulate their philosophy behind a relationship-first mentality.

Extending a visual language

We infused hand-rendered elements with imagery of partners and founders in conversation, emphasizing the deliberate relationships Index fosters.

First impressions

The site often serves as the first introduction entrepreneurs have to learning about Index. The Homepage is meant to feel like the start of a face-to-face conversation, greeting them with an invitation to learn more about Index and their existing partnerships. On the Relationships page, entrepreneurs can read in more depth about companies Index has worked with in the past.

At Index, the partners are their product. We created an easy way for entrepreneurs to filter by location or focus area to help them find the right partner to connect with. Team member pages offer an in-depth view of what it’s like to work with them through personal interviews, words from founders, featured company videos, and articles they’ve written.

From seed to growth

Index’s initial small collection of resources got great traction, and has singularly raised their profile as a thought leader. We set up a framework for them to be able to publish more researched-based content and opinion pieces to continue that momentum.
